Time Out for Grammie

Today i had to go to pick up some keys very close by our house and asked Kiva to go with me. kiva did not want to go, "i'll just stay here with granpa". Jack was sleeping, ken was reading, kiva picked up one of his books and laid down next to him, opened it and proceeded to "read him a story" making up words and sounds. he says she did for a looooong time. ken says she is really beginning to get the connection between printed symbols and spoken language. she also asked him why he was lying down, when he said his back hurt, she looked concerned and said, "oh, I am soooo sorry".

When they were through reading, they got up to come down stairs. going by my sewing room, Kiva was struck dumb by the mess on the floor, thread, fabric scraps (i'm almost finished with a quilt). Kiva looked pained, announced "this will not do, we have to clean this up. it is a terrible mess". So she and granpa crawled around picking all of it up. When I got home shortly thereafter, Kiva told me I needed a time out because the "mess you made was NOT ok" I had to sit in the living room until she said I was done with my time out....and say I was sorry and would do better. She was quite serious about this, very annoyed at my mess.

As usual, many funny looks, songs, and games today. what a treat to laugh all day with my grandbabies [Joan]

Best Friends

Jack laughs so hard when Kiva talks to him it is very very funny. Kiva very funny this morning again, when Ken kissed me she looked startled and said...."hey, is grammie your best friend?" Too funny, Ken laughed and said yes, I guess she is. [Joan]

Email from Kiva

Hi Vanessa,
Kiva and I are playing on the computer. she says, there is a teddy bear on the christmas tree and Kiva is going to take it home. I had french toast for breakfast with orange juice. Now Jack is sleeping and we fixed my new big girl bed in the living room.
Love from Kiva

Rolling Over

Jack is rolling over now :-) He is mainly doing it in his crib and is ever soooo proud of himself. [Vanessa]

Storm clouds

Did I send Kiva home in her long dark purple dress recently? If so, you should send it back with her. After our hot tub and shower last week we spent 20 minutes deciding what she would wear. I only had three perfectly good dresses to choose from, as well as numerous pants and shirts, but she wanted that long purple one. We looked carefully all over the house, even in the dirty laundry. Quite funny to see her standing there in her panties, socks and shoes with her arms crossed and storm clouds on her face. After repeatedly kindly telling her she must wear something and these were her choices, she finally gave in for the dress you sent and looked just adorable. How I love playing with her on Fridays. Big bubble bath

Tuesday eve we went hot tubbing, which Kiva really likes. she calls it the "big bubble bath". When we were done, I wrapped her in a towel, which she shrugged off immediately. She then walked through the entire house up to my upstairs bathroom, completely unclothed. When she got to my bathroom where we were going to take a shower to rinse off the spa water, she carefully shut the door announcing "we need some privacy". Too funny. [Joan]

What a charmer

Jack jack is doing great, eating like there is no tommorrow. Lots of naps, lots of cuddle and tickle time with grammie, a sun bath out in the yard on grammies lap, a regular bath in the kitchen sink and clean clothes. spent some time with granpa, granpa holding him and carrying him around in the yard....the sun has been out for a little while and it is quite warm since it is so sheltered. right now he is playing with the mobile while i check up on my email. I found out that jack...
does not like to be rocked while he eats.
does very much like to be rocked to sleep
does not like his bottle too cool
does very much like being outside and watching the trees and the dog
loves to look at you and practice his considerable charms, smiles, giggles, sly looks. what a charmer [Joan]

that's not a problem

Yesterday Kiva and Ken were getting some water from the refrigerator door when Ken spilled water on the floor. Quick as a flash, Kiva said "that's not a problem" and grabbed her tiny mop and cheerfully worked away at the spill. Maybe it doesn't sound too funny but it was hysterical at the time. Reminded me of what good parents you are to our angels. I can hear your voices being kindly understanding of her oopsies when she says "these things happen", or "that's ok" when things go wrong. More Independence

Friday afternoon Ken and I took Kiva to the park, where she (and we) had a great time. For the first time she really interacted with one of the other kids there...a girl probably around 4-5 years old started talking to her in the sand pit, and pretty soon they were running around all over the play area together. Kiva looked over every once in a while to make sure she knew where we were, (both of us sitting on a bench, eyes glued on our darling) but was happy running and climbing with her new pal. More independence is developing and also confidence which is great. [Joan]

Her own groupies all ready

Kiva was such a joy today, very very lively, verbal, happy. she is developing a droll sense of humor that just tickles us. Ken went with us both to the park and to the gym...he worked on the machines while we were in the pool. Kiva was so proud to show him how she could jump in the pool. She jumped in many times so I could catch her. Most times I made sure her head never went under, but every once in a while she would hold her nose and I would let her head go partially under. She didn't get upset at all. I had her watch while I put my head under too. Too funny, a group of older teenage boys noticed her repeatedly jumping into the pool and started encouraging her...yelling..."jump", "hooray you did it" and the like. Her own groupies all ready. she also practiced swimming. [Joan]
